Employment Law News: Medical Marijuana in Ohio

Below, Tara Motheral, HR Advisor at ERC, discusses medical marijuana and its impact on workplaces throughout Ohio.

Marijuana remains an illegal drug under federal law, but more and more states are legalizing it both recreationally and for medical purposes. As of August 2018, marijuana is legal in two-thirds of the United States.

State laws vary, but in Ohio, the law on marijuana is very employer-friendly.

Ohio’s program allows patients with 21 conditions to apply for and obtain a medical marijuana card. The card permits the individual to use medical marijuana in the form of edibles, oils, patches, and vapor. However, smoking marijuana in Ohio is still illegal.

ERC provides customized employment law training for organizations nationwide.
